   Will,

   Thanks for sharing your slide. I am wanting you to do a follow up article on twitter with google analytics. I couldn’t quite make that out and it would be a very promising post!

   So the problem I run into with pushing my local area with twitter is this. I am from Idaho, when i do a 80 mile search for tweets, I get like 4 people, 2 of which talk about cats a lot. So, i was about to give up on it for local when out of nowhere I had an Idaho senator appearing on my local area quite frequently. He was a great tweeter and really knew how to manage the personal/political side of things. Well, we have became friends based on the fact that nobody else is locally tweeting. That is a good connection and could prove very useful for the future. Thanks for your slides and I really, really wish i could have been there today. Hopefully next year!

   Nice presentation, Will. I found this via David Mihm’s write up on the session.

   I tend to agree with most of your observations. I now have a couple of twitter accts; 1 personal, 1 I operate, 2 that employees operate. That makes 3 for smbs.

   I still think we remain in the “learning stage”. For raw stats for the one I’m spending time on:

   I currently follow a little over 600 tweeters. Virtually all of them are local with a few industry tweeters thrown in. I’ve made a little over 600 tweets. I have about 250 followers. The majority are local…and of course there are tweet spammers, which twitter regularly pares.

   The 600 tweets have generated somewhat over 100 visits to the business website pages. As a website we count conversions as “contacts” We have had 6 via the contact forms. That suggests to me we have had about 8-12 in total by web and phone.

   We practise most of what you preach including engaging people, referencing “clever” tweeters, retweeting, etc. The business has definitely gotten media visibility from that metro region, which we didn’t have before.

   Its primarily a time investment, which not all smbs have.
