Lucky Number 7: The 13th Floor Welcomes New Influencers

Some may think that the thirteenth floor is unlucky (we sure don’t!), but everybody knows that seven is the luckiest number. This month, there are seven new influencers! Join us in welcoming our newest team members.

Gerardo-MenendezGerardo Menendez  – Junior Account Associate

Gerardo (Gerry) grew up in San Salvador, El Salvador. At the age of 18, Gerry moved to Boston for college where he attended Bentley University. Upon graduation, he moved to New Orleans to be closer to his family and enjoy the local festivities. He is passionate about music, nature, and traveling. In his spare time, he loves attending music festivals, shows, and going on nature expeditions across the country.

Jacqueline-CarterJacqueline Carter – Junior Account Associate

Originally from New Jersey, Jacqueline came to New Orleans to study marketing at Tulane University. Before joining the Search Influence team, Jacqueline worked in advertising. In her free time, she loves to travel and try new restaurants around New Orleans.

    John-Luckey

John Luckey – Junior Account Associate

John was born and raised in Wisconsin and is brand new to New Orleans. He is a recent graduate in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin and moved to town to follow true love (he knows he will also love his work at Search Influence). In addition to attending school, John spent his senior year at UW doing public relations and communications work for a Madison-based insurance company. He enjoys cooking and producing electronic music in his free time.

    Kayla-Green

Kayla Green – Junior Internet Marketing Associate

Born and raised in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Kayla moved to New Orleans to study marketing at Loyola University New Orleans. Prior to SI, she worked as marketing coordinator for the music venue One Eyed Jacks. Currently, Kayla holds the honorary title as “the biggest Led Zeppelin fan in the crescent city.”

    Kristie-Andres

Kristie Andres – Junior Internet Marketing Associate

Kristie Andres, a born and raised Florida girl, found herself pulled to New Orleans by deep family roots. After a brief run in New York City, she packed up her remarkable shoe collection, and moved to New Orleans. She danced her way through high school at an art school in Florida, and received her bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a minor in dance from the University of Florida, where she currently pursues a master’s degree in Web Design and Online Communications. If she is not online shopping or reading today’s issue of Women’s Wear Daily, she is probably in the gym personally training a client or working out. Despite her efforts to reject accusations that she is just like her mom, she finds herself bright-eyed and stylishly dressed, working in downtown New Orleans, exactly as her mom did at her age.

    Laura-Mosley

Laura Mosely – Junior Online Advertising Associate

Fresh off the plane from Virginia, Laura just moved to New Orleans in July 2014 with her husband. She graduated from Christopher Newport University in 2011 and traveled to England to obtain her Masters Degree in Media and Advertising. Before joining S.I., she sold radio and digital advertising for Summit Media in Richmond, VA. A fan of traveling and trying new things, Laura is very excited to start this new chapter at Search Influence in New Orleans!

Matt Young – Junior Internet Marketing Associate

Born in New Orleans, raised in Madison, WI, Matt loves visual arts, language, architecture, and cooking. • An Influencer’s Dispatches From Tour

    IanMusicTourPicture01

In May, Search Influence allowed me to take off for about a month to pursue playing guitar in a touring music act. Here are some of the highlights of my trip:

Lexington, KYIn Kentucky for derby weekend — it turns out that everyone there is incredibly nice and Mint Juleps rule.

Philadelphia, PA A great place to enjoy buffalo wings as well as other “lowbrow” delicacies.

Brooklyn, NYGot to do a cool radio interview in a studio overlooking the East Village!

    Baltimore, MD Spooky!

Detroit, MI Cheap houses!!! Saw a deer — in downtown.

Grand Rapids, MI We played with a relatively successful band in Philly that was on tour as well. They were great, and their drummer and I got along really well. We had a funny conversation about “The Sopranos” after noticing a pastel portrait of Chris Moltisanti hanging in the green room of the venue. A week later, we were playing in Grand Rapids, when I get flagged down by someone in the parking lot. It was the drummer from the band in Philly. It turns out he was from Kalamazoo, and he and his friends drove an hour to come see us in Grand Rapids. If that wasn’t cool enough already, he and his band paid the venue owner for the funny Sopranos painting and drove it all of the way from Philly to give it to me in Grand Rapids.

Milwaukee, WI Ate cheese while looking over the lake. Very yummy/pretty.

    Fargo, ND Was cold.

Portland, ORHomecoming show for me, it was really great seeing all of my friends and family. It was one of our best shows on tour. Coincidentally, a transformer blew up during our “encore” song, plunging the club and surrounding neighborhood into darkness, which prompted an epic drum solo in the dark. It was really fun and such a strange coincidence, everyone thought we orchestrated it.

San Francisco, CA COFFEE HERE WILL MAKE YOU RUN THROUGH A BRICK WALL; ALSO, GOOGLE GLASS!!!

Los Angeles, CA I get why they call it City of Angels, The Big Orange, La-LA Land, Shaky Town, and Tinseltown (specifically applies to Hollywood).

Los Cruces, NM Got to experience a breathtaking lightning storm sort of like this one.

Marfa, TX– Was originally developed to accommodate a speculative oil boom, then bought by Swedes once the oil ran out faster than expected. Additionally, all of the weirdos who emanated the weirdness in Austin moved here once Austin’s tech boom priced them out. As result, this is a super weird little art town where every single business doubles as an art gallery. Also home of this.

Austin, TX– Next level food scene.

Houston, TX– Definitely a pretty big place! Rothko Chapel was cool?

    IanMusicTourPicture02

So there you have it! Also – let it be known that the Ford Aerostar is a fine piece of machinery. I highly recommend it to anyone who is in the market for an affordable and trustworthy van.

  • Influencers Flock to the Pelicans Game

Image Of Influencers At The Pelicans GameIt’s 4:30 PM on a Monday and where is Search Influence? On our way to the Pelicans vs. Nets game! It already did not feel like a typical Monday because Jack Black was filming a movie on the first floor of our building in Oak Bar, but our quarterly office team building event only added to the excitement.

I have only been with Search Influence for a little over three months, and I have already gotten to experience two company bonding events that made me feel welcome and appreciated. Not only did we receive tickets to the Pelicans game, we also had the Party Perch in the Smoothie King Center rented out so we could mingle beforehand. Thank you Team Building Committee! (Yes, we have a group of Influencers that take extra time to make sure our events are special!)

After a slow start, the Pelicans caught up with the Nets and went into overtime, which made our group go wild. We danced to the Wobble, Jump On It and other classic jams while we cheered for the Pelicans who shot multiple three-pointers and claimed their victory!

    picstitch-1

All in all, it was a very eventful Monday night and I’m glad I got to spend with my co-workers in my favorite city. I can’t wait to see what our Team Building Committee comes up with next to help our ever growing number of Influencers have fun together!

  • Mardi Gras Season At Search Influence

king cakeHere in New Orleans, we celebrate a few extra holidays. Mardi Gras, otherwise known as Carnival Season, began on January 6th this year with the Phunny Phorty Phellows parade. The season culminates tomorrow, with Mardi Gras Day itself, otherwise known as Fat Tuesday.

    Tradition

In addition to the parades, drinking, parties, and mass amounts of tourists that make Mardi Gras special, we also eat a LOT of king cake. This cake, baked in honor of the three kings, is an oval shaped cinnamon cake decorated in the traditional Mardi Gras colors: purple, green, and gold. Each cake has a small plastic baby hidden inside, and tradition states that the person who finds the baby in their piece of king cake will have good luck (and they’ll have to supply the next king cake).

    King Cakes

Obviously, we don’t want to mess with tradition at Search Influence, so king cakes have taken over the office for the past few weeks. Not only have we eaten traditional king cakes, Influencers have also gone above and beyond to provide the most decadent, most beautiful, most delicious variety of king cakes around! Almost every day of the week our team enjoys king cakes from any one of the following places:

    Rouses
    Haydel’s
    Meche’s
    Manny Randazzo
    Domenica
    Maple Street Patissierie
    Whole Foods
    Nonna Randazzo’s
    Tastee McKenzie’s
    Breads on Oak
    JCB Creations
    Gambino’s
    Hi-Do
    La Boulangerie
    Ye Olde College Bakery
    And More!

    kingcakegif

As team building is an important part of the Search Influence community, bringing employees together with a new and exciting king cake every day has been a great part of Mardi Gras. Hopefully, as our team continues to grow, the number of king cakes we eat will too!

Do you have a favorite king cake? Let us know in the comments!

  • Part Time Influencer on Balancing Work and School

Screen Shot 2014-02-24 at 10.14.48 AM

It’s no secret that college students are busy. There is an old diagram that portrays this pretty well. Students want good grades, a social life and a good night’s sleep, but only have the time to choose two of those.

These days, the pressure on students is higher than ever before. We have more than just grades and a social life to worry about. There are also jobs, extracurricular activities, housework, exercise, cooking, volunteer work, dating, hobbies, keeping in touch with family, and so much more that college students must handle.

I am a senior marketing major at Tulane, but I also work 25-30 hours a week at Search Influence, in addition to several other activities and an attempt to maintain a social life and enjoy some free time. This can be stressful and it certainly keeps me busy, but maintaining all of your commitments while in college is very feasible. I am one of three influencers who work part time while also attending school.

    Keeping busy keeps me focused.

When I have too much free time it is easy to procrastinate and get sidetracked from my obligations. A heavy load of classes and work forces students to adopt good time management habits. With limited free time, I make sure I get my work done efficiently so that I have an opportunity to spend time with friends, enjoy hobbies, or catch up on sleep. Learning how to focus and allocate your time also increases productivity and makes enjoying yourself much easier.

    Productive Procrastination

procrastination memeI’ll admit it, I procrastinate all the time. It is so easy to get off task in college. There is always some social event or movie on Netflix calling your name. When I have a major assignment due that I just can’t wrap my head around yet, I try to procrastinate in a productive manner. This may sound like an oxymoron, but it is totally possible. Rather than browsing social media or watching TV, focus on smaller homework assignments or clean your room. These less stressful tasks can help turn your lazy mood into a productive one. Once you start on something productive, it is easier to move on to other tasks. When you finish that stressful assignment you will have a clean room, too!

Got any other time management tips? Let us know in the comments!
